Partnerships and Chapters

Soil4Climate encourages the formation of organizational partnerships and regional Soil4Climate chapters to help spread the hopeful message of soil as a climate mitigation solution. We are proud of the partnerships and chapters that have been established, and the many in development.

Research Partnership with the Tufts University Global Development and Environment Institute (GDAE)

The Tufts University Global Development and Environment Institute (GDAE), in conjunction with Soil4Climate, is initiating an effort to research and publicize the significant potential of natural systems to store carbon through improved restorative management. Our goal is to achieve a more prominent role for forests and soils in climate policy at the 2016 UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco. In April of 2016, Soil4Climate and GDAE co-authored a climate policy brief, released in conjunction with the Earth Day ratification of the Paris Climate Accords. The brief is titled, “Putting ‘Earth’ into Earth Day 2016 – Forests, Soils, Grasslands and Wetlands: Key Allies in Meeting Climate Goals”

Kenya Chapter of Soil4Climate – Partnership with IMAD

Ildalalekutuk Maasai Action for Development (IMAD), a Kenyan grassroots organization, has partnered with Soil4Climate to establish a Kenyan chapter. This chapter will connect members of the local community who wish to learn together about soil as a climate solution and to participate in this ambitious ecological restoration effort.

Through this partnership, the two groups agree to collaborate on research and outreach to empower the Maasai people in Kajiado Central district of Kenya to manage their land to improve soil health and capture atmospheric carbon. See press release here.
